TRAINING LOAD ''SPECIFICITY '' TO THE TASK,

TRAINING LOAD ''SPECIFICITY '' TO THE TASK,

Every sports training interventions, more so the tennis training should specify the task taken for the training season/month /week /day/session. This is important to maintain the balence between the inner load and the outer load,THE INNER LOAD is the changes, which happens, in the form of adaptation/supercompensation to the athlete[tennis player] due the TRAINING OUTER LOAD in the form of exercises, lifting weights, using training gadgets[balencing balls ,wheel mounted platforms etc. If the outer load is not specific to the task undertaken for training IN THE ASPECT OF DURATION, ,INTENSITY,SPECIFICITY,to the neuro muscular/biomechanical  properties of the task/game skill, say FORE HAND,BACK HAND strokes it may not only do any good/improvement in skill level but also end up in INJURY PRONENESS to the tennis player.

  1. It is so beautiful to see the real art of analysis, the study and thoughtfulness that goes into your work. I really admire how you've applied your talents to the sport of Tennis and it should be brought to the attention of those who instruct, maybe even for testing to see how it does in comparison what's happening in that field now.
Personally, I've always had an interest in the game of tennis but I knew I had so many other things I loved that I would never be on the tour, hahaha! I had it in my blood, I think, because I think God plays tennis! Tennis is that kind of sport! But going back to my beginning, when I was a very small child I always had to have a ball to at least throw against a wall continuously and then my mother finally got me a tennis racquet to be able to hit the ball against walls, garages, etc. in between going to the stables to ride, and riding the waves at the beach and going twice a week to dancing school, hiking, working at the ranches, etc.
I went to a Tennis Academy for high school and Harold Chaffee was my coach. His daughter was Nancy Chaffee and she was really great around the time of Althea Gibson, Arthur Ashe, and others. One of my friends at school was a rival of Billie Jean King when she was Billie Moffitt and beat her most matches. She had foot problems and had to retire.
Anyway, I worked for Dick Gould during High School when he was still home in Ventura County as a Youth Tennis Instructor. It was very enlightening. What I looked for was desire. I would give them the fundamentals without being too picky, and watch them. They could be real tall, real short or in between....the best ones were the ones who were willing to concentrate and if they missed they just shrugged it off and kept going. I looked for the ones who had natural balance, natural feel of where the ball was going to go, good timing, good attitude, good footwork, and who really enjoyed what they were doing. The rest of them became my helpers, hahaha! Ball kids, gather the balls, maybe even toss the balls to the hitters. Then I would work with those kids later to see if they would think about getting interested. Some would , some not. But I never worried about anything else, because if they didn't have those tendencies I mentioned, they weren't going to be great tennis players. They were to be great at something else. My philosophy, because of my experience with the kids like that was that it didn't matter much how much you put into a kid to try and make them great, if they don't have a natural gift for it they should try to do something that they will excel at with ease and feel completely natural. It's already built in. It has always been my philosophy in schools to teach the basics and then let kids be tested for what they really like to do in the way of work, or career or how they would like to earn their living and have schools tuned in for that way of teaching. If a kid shows an interest in being a Doctor, give them a chance at that...or a dvm, or nurse or lawyer, or farmer, or whatever. There could be wonderful programs geared for that kind of schooling! What's wrong with people!! Nobody's willing to grow??? Well, anyway, that's how I feel....I hope someday someone will agree with me....
